I arrived in Bangkok at 11:00 p.m. after flying for over 24 hours. My friend, Mala and her son met me at the airport. Had a pleasant surprise in Chicago when I boarded the plane. I was upgraded to business class. I was able to stretch out and slept most of the 13 hours and arrived in Narita, Japan . Boarded the plane again after a 3 hour wait for Bangkok and arrived at 11:00 p.m. Cleared thru customs and claimed baggage at about midnight and was driven to a friends house where I stayed for several days.
Enjoyed finding a business that started 18 years ago. One of the daughters has taken over the business. They do the dyeing, hand painting , batiking themselves. This cottage industry is a business type that I always advocate when I do my overseas buying. I love to find unique, art to wear accessories and garments.
Explored this market on a week-end. It's so huge and confusing! The heat got to me after a while. Thousands of people mostly tourist come and experience the open market atmosphere where you can buy everything from food, clothing, jewelry, carvings etc. Between the heat, smell, crowd.....about 4 hours is more that I can take.
Love mangoes. Have it for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Just imagine, 4 mangoes for $1.00!!!! Feeling so at home here. Enjoy the open market!!
Love this place. I can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Enjoying my kiwi/ mango drink with Apple, founder of Hope House who also is my interpreter in Chiangmai.
